Trusting Your Truth in Paint.

Trusting Your Truth in Paint. A Podcast Interview with Artist Dan McCaw.

Own the Big Picture Podcast.

October 18, 2026

Written By Anne Ward

Last month I had the wonderful chance to finally sit down and talk with painter Dan McCaw about his process, practice and inspiration. The podcast is called Own the Big Picture and I’ll be talking to people about how they own their attention to better align to their authentic selves to get to the bigger picture vision of things. Dan is working on a book to share so much wisdom gained from decades at the easel and it was SO inspiring to talk about trusting one’s vision and finding the validation to keep going at art. Here is a favorite quote from Dan. “The search for a personal voice isn’t necessarily a search for something missing. It may be learning to recognize, trust, and develop qualities that were already there but were covered by expectations, training, fear, and the desire for approval.”

In order to trust one’s truth, it’s really important to set the stage for curating the best possible internal dialogue. There is the discipline of an art practice AND the discipline of owning attention to be able to hear the quiet murmurings of what lights you up. Having an art practice is a way to anchor attention in the season of fall and bold new beginnings. So I thought it would be fun to share a printable intention card with each month. I choose one of these each morning and place it on my kitchen counter to remind me to come back home to my heart and my intention for the day. If that resonates for you..the card this month is ease.  And if you’d like more relative to a calm centering practice to better own attention…I made a free introductory lesson with some downloadable pages to check out.

Wishing you all the best and thank you for reading/subscribing! Please send me a note if you have any questions about paintings/classes or just a note to say hi!
