The Art of Standing Still
The art of standing still can be so challenging in the overwhelm summer time. But I’m doubling down to stand still and put my attention on painting the uplifting places I find beauty.
Thoughts on Summer and the Art of Standing Still
Summer always feels invigorating and a bit chaotic in the garden and life. There’s an unstructured/freewheeling chaos to July. Its easy to spend time chasing things. I tend to be thinking about subtracting to get to what is essential. And with all the uncertainty of the world I am clinging tightly to painting and putting attention on all that is beautiful to me. I'm beginning a series that I'm calling 'Still Beauty' because recognizing what is beautiful requires a degree of standing still and anchoring of attention. That idea was behind my painting that's up in the Gold Medal Show at the Hilbert Museum in Orange County which is on view until September 13th. I am also honored to be in two shows in Ojai. If you could use a break from it all and want to see art in person I'll put the info below. AND if you'd like to see a virtual catalog I made one with some paintings in the series! I like the sound effect when you 'flip' the digital page.
Next week I'm excited to finally share something I've been working on for the past year and a half. Its called Own the Big Picture -- a mindfulness art journal in book form or self guided online. It shares the 15 minute morning practice I do each day to align thoughts energy and attention. I also thought it would be fun to share a printable intention card with each of these emails. I choose one of these each morning and place it on my kitchen counter to remind me to come back home to my heart and my intention for the day. If that resonates for you..the card this month is courage.
Wishing you all the best and thank you for reading/subscribing! Please send me a note if you have any questions about paintings/classes or just a note to say hi!

After I planted the garden for summer, I gathered some clippings from the garden. I stood in awe at how beautiful the light can be at the end of the day in a new season.
